Course information

We offer a full range of USCG-approved courses and academic services for Professional Mariner training and certification.

  • Basic Training: Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities

    Provides the mariner with an overview of basic knowledge in maritime personal safety, accident and pollution prevention and social responsibility, including the requirements of a substance free lifestyle. Includes understanding principles that will ensure a safe working environment and safe work practices through adherence to guiding law, regulation, policies and procedures.

    Time duration: 7 hours

    Investment: $400 list

  • Basic Training: Personal Survival Techniques

    Provides the mariner with basic maritime skills and knowledge to maximize the probability for survival at sea. This includes use of survival appurtenances and personal gear, actions to be taken in the event of an emergency, and skills that enhance the probability of survival at sea.

    Time duration: 14 hours

    Investment: $800 list

  • Basic Training: Fire Prevention and Fighting

    Provides the mariner with basic maritime skills and knowledge to prevent and fight fires aboard ship. This includes understanding fire theory, action to be taken to prevention and combat fires, skills for fighting fires with fixed and portable systems, and mariners roll on a ships fire-fighting team.

    Time duration: 16 hours

    Investment: $800 list

  • Basic Training: First Aid and CPR

    Provides the mariner with foundational knowledge and understanding of first aid practices to administer immediate life-saving first-aid. This includes treatment of bleeding, limb fracture, severe burns and patient transport, and skills in basic life support (CPR) and proper use of AED.

    Time duration: 8 hours

    Invesment: $400 list

  • Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties

    Provides the mariner with foundational knowledge of shipboard security knowledge, responsibilities and proficiency in order to fulfill security duties on board a vessel. Incudes understanding threat, recognition and response in drills, exercises and live response that affect the ships security actions.

    Time duration: 8 hours

    Investment: $400 list

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Required for the mariner who does NOT have 1 year sea time in the past 5 years. Provides the professional mariner with a refresher of basic maritime personal survival techniques, personal social and safety responsibilities, first aid, and fire prevention and firefighting skills.

  • Required for the mariner who HAS 1 year sea time in the past 5 years. Provides the professional mariners with a refresher of basic maritime personal survival and fire prevention/firefighting skills. Includes demonstration of skills in proper use of fire-fighting equipment and life-saving appurtenances and personal gear.

  • Provides the mariner with skills and knowledge to acquire the STCW Rating for Forming Part of a Navigation Watch. Using a bridge simulator, will be able to steer the ship and comply with helm orders, keep a proper lookout, and contribute to a safe bridge watch team.
